Liang to join national food and policy advisors panel

Chyi Lyi (Kathleen) Liang has been appointed as a senior fellow with the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy (www.NCFAP.org), a Washington-based not-for-profit group that organizes and conducts research, analyses, professional development or education projects to inform the public about food, agriculture, natural resources, environmental quality, and rural economics.
Liang will join a group of 20 fellows, providing advice to chief officers to shape the nation’s food and agricultural policies.
“It is an honor to join this cohort,” Liang said. “I have worked with many colleagues across the country to study policy effects, implications, tradeoffs and new potential policies in the U.S. agriculture and food systems. Many senior fellows are national and international leaders in agricultural and food policy analysts.”
In her role, Liang said, she’ll work on such questions as how to use better technologies to enhance the productivity, improve efficiency, reduce burden for farm labor and create an intellectual working environment that can be managed by farmers.
She also sees great opportunity for more participation from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs.)
“There are many outstanding scholars at HBCUs. I hope to motivate and recruit more of them to join us,” she said. “We have a strong sense of local and regional issues for a variety of stakeholders who might not be represented in the policy arena. We have an opportunity to share different voices, examine consequences from various angles, and offer tailored approaches to support our constituents to carry on our legacy.”
CAES Advisory Board meets at University Farm
The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Advisory Board meets three times a year to discuss CAES advancement and outreach plans, support the college's strategic initiatives and help in securing resources to support faculty and students.
The college sends a tremendous "thank you" to the board for their support and advocacy; and to past board chairmen Denver Caldwell and Jimmy Gentry, who is now chair emeritus.
