Shewana McSwain, the Try Healthy SNAP-Ed coordinator with Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T, joined forces with other campus and county faculty and staff, including Ryan O'Connor, Patrice Dollar, Katryn Eske, Ph.D., and Morgan Malone to lead an inspiring wellness training session during N.C. A&T's Division of Student Affairs End-of-Year Retreat earlier this summer. The event was held at Barber Park Event Center in Greensboro. Shewana and Ryan's segment, "Bringing the Fun Back to Fitness," was a highlight of the event and featured an over-and-under ball transfer competition and a hula hoop pass through relay race. Both sparked some spirited discussion and fostered team building.

Reflecting on childhood memories, McSwain said, "Remember how excited we were for recess? I wanted to rekindle that joy for adults." She emphasized the importance of staying active, especially for those with desk jobs, noting that prolonged sitting—over eight hours a day—can be as harmful as smoking, significantly increasing the risk of serious health issues. To counter this, McSwain shared a variety of enjoyable activities designed to make movement fun again, ensuring everyone left with practical tips to incorporate more physical activity into their daily routines.
