Blue-Terry Joins Cooperative Extension Leadership Team

Misty Blue-Terry, Ph.D., has been named as Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T’s new assistant administrator for Youth, Families and Communities.  She will begin the position this month.

In this new position, she will take on program leadership responsibilities for N.C. A&T Cooperative Extension’s 4-H, Family and Consumer Sciences and Community Resource Development programs.  She is currently 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) specialist with Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T.

“Dr. Blue-Terry brings a wealth of experience and scholarship to the position from her prior work in teaching, research and Extension,” said M. Ray McKinnie, Ph.D., associate dean and Cooperative Extension administrator. “As 4-H STEM specialist, she has developed a successful and highly visible experiential learning education program for 4-H youth, staff and adult volunteers. In this role, she will provide leadership and strategic management to foster excellence in 4-H and Family and Consumer Sciences’ programming, implementation and evaluation.”

Blue-Terry has served as a faculty researcher at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; and as an assistant professor of Industrial and Human Factors Engineering at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in biomedical and industrial engineering. She also served on graduate research committees, departmental/university committees and as faculty advisor for Society of Women Engineers at Wright State.

She is a member of the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents; Human Factors and Ergonomics Society; Institute of Industrial Engineering; Alpha Pi Mu (Industrial Engineering Honor Society), National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. She has supervised graduate research at the Masters level and served on doctoral graduate research committees.

“Her drive towards excellence includes successful grantsmanship as well, having obtained sixteen grants ranging from $15,000 to $18.1 million, with more than $9 million as lead,” McKinnie said.

Within Extension, Blue-Terry has been recognized as Outstanding Specialist in Supporting County Programs by the N.C. Assoc. of County Extension Specialists; won the 1890 Regional Award for Excellence in Extension from the Assoc. of Public and Land-Grant Universities; and has been a LEAD 21 Fellow/Graduate and a Foods Systems Leadership Institute Fellow through APLU.

Students from across the university learned about career opportunities at John Deere, viewed the latest equipment and enjoyed refreshments during John Deere Day, on campus recently.

Kelvin Edwards, Ed.D., ‘89 and ‘93, was awarded the CAES’s Alumni Achievement Award at Fall Convocation. A career educator, Edwards is the superintendent of Greensville County Public Schools, in Emporia, Va. Before this, he served as assistant superintendent of human resources and auxiliary services for Northampton County Public Schools in North Carolina and as deputy superintendent in Franklin City Public Schools. He has more than 28 years of experience working at all levels of public education.
